Otras cosas –
Titular – Ofrecerán tecnología 5G (5G technology will be offered) – ETAPA is getting ready to offer 5G technology. This will not be only for communication among people, but máquina a máquina (M2M). There will be plenty of work for software and app developers with security being a high priority. ETAPA is working on permit applications to use frequency bands they will need, and is planning the equipment needed to offer these new services.
INA Papers – <Not that I remember what that case was. There are so many of them.> The Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the alleged existence of offshore companies linked to people close to the president. Pres. Moreno’s brother, Edwin, appeared at a hearing before the A.G., and authorized opening up all his bank accounts to the investigation.
Incendios forestales (Forest fires) – The Fire Department is intensifying its “Yo cuido los bosques” (I take care of the forests) campaign to prevent forest fires. They are visiting communities with fire prevention messages. <I wonder if Smokey would think about coming to Ecuador. But he’d have to be a spectacled bear in a Panama hat.> In 2018, 4,391 hectares burned in Azuay. The cantón of Cuenca was most affected with 2,007 hectares. According to ECU 911, verano, agosto, septiembre y octubre, is high fire season with higher temperatures, little rain, and dry vegetation. The penalty for causing a fire can be 1-3 years in prison. If the fire caused loss of life, the penalty increases to 13-16 years. The Chief of the department said 99% of forest fires have human causes. Many of these are agricultural burnings that get out of control.
3rd security plan – The city is designing its 3rd security plan in 10 years. The first one was applied between 2012-14 during Paúl Granda’s administration. The second applied between 2015-19 during Marcelo Cabrera’s administration. One suggestion for the current plan is to make it renewable every 1-2 years so that each administration doesn’t have to start from scratch.
And that’s all for today so Hasta ? –
