Azuay Province Governor Santiago Malo announced Tuesday there will be no power blackouts in tourist areas of Cuenca during the five-day Cuenca holidays weekend, October 31 to November 4. The holiday includes the Day of the Dead observance and an additional holiday decreed by President Daniel Noboa.

Power blackouts will be suspended in tourist districts during Cuenca’s holidays, October 31 to November 4.

“In tourist places and in those places where holiday events are being held, there will be no power cuts,” Malo said. In addition to crafts and food fairs, 57 concerts and other public events are scheduled for the holidays.

According to Malo, blackout suspensions have also been ordered in parts of other cities, including Quito, during the holidays.

He added that he expects similar suspensions of power outages in Cuenca during the Ibero-American conference in two weeks.
