Classical guitar – David Vázquez returned to Cuenca after graduating from the Manhattan school of Music in classical guitar. He will perform with 3 other musicians el 18/7 in the teatro Pumapungo.

Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital

Exposición – A show of work by students of the Academia Alvarado is in the Ex-Escuela Central. The show that will last until el próximo sábado.

Otras cosas –

Titular – 10 bachilleres quedan fuera (10 high school grads are out) – 10 youth who voluntarily said they had bought the admission exam to the School of Medicine at the U. of Cuenca, if they obtained a place, will not be permitted to enter. An internal commission identified the 10 high students and 2 parents who said they bought the test questions, but didn’t identify who provided the questions.

Health – Health professionals are asking for improvements to the health system, listing issues of an excess of administrative personnel, optimizing resources, and alleged politicization of health. Health programs are affected by changes in the administration, and the next minister should be someone aligned with a university and better prepared for the job. In 2018, Zone 6 of the MSP attended to 2,5 million people in Azuay, Cañar y Morona Santiago. Patients of the Vicente Corral Moscoso hospital need to bring in a referral from a first level clinic.

Focos ahorrados (saving lightbulbs) <I’ve forgotten what they’re called in English.> – You can bring burnt out energy saving bulbs to the Empresa Eléctrica Regional Centro Sur (EERCS) on av. Max Uhle y Pumapungo.

Trees – Starting today, EMAC is cutting eucalyptus trees on calle Roma between París y Viena in the Mujeres de Piedra sector. The trees are in danger of falling. EMAC technicians publicized the event to the residents, most of whom agreed. <Of course the ones that didn’t would be the first to sue the city if a tree fell on their house.> There is also routine tree trimming for visibility on Solano next to the Unidad Educativa Bilingue.

Tranvía operators – The city signed an agreeement with the Sindicato de Choferes Profesionales de Baños to train operators to get their type E licenses. The Tranvía has 42 drivers on the payroll of whom 9 already have the E license.

Pagina Negocios – The “Art Hotels Ecuador” chain opened Hotel Cruz del Vado, a 26 room hotel on calle La Condamine y Tarqui. The chain restored the 120 year old house with its Italian marble facade into a boutique hotel with rooms costing $250/night.
