The 20-passenger Mercedes Benz vans will be operated by Turismo Oriental, Sucre Express, San Luis Executivo, Super Taxis Cuenca, and Semería, companies that provide bus service between Cuenca, Guayaquil and Quito.

The NTA said that about 75% of the trips will be between Cuenca and Guayaquil with the rest going to Quito and three other destinations. In Cuenca, the vans will depart and arrive at the airport.

The NTA said it has not made a final decision on fares but will announce them before the Cuenca airport is closed.

The NTA agreement does not include tour van companies, which operate smaller vans. The rules that currently apply to those companies for transporting interprovincial passengers will remain in effect, the agency says.
