Antiques fair at Casa de la Lira in El Vado; El Vado bridges development proposed; Animation workshop offered for teens; Live music on Saturday
Exp Feria en El Vado la dedican a antiguedades – A new edition of the Expo Feria de Antiguedades will be in the Casa Municipal de la Lira in El Vado este sábado y domingo. This monthly event has become a gathering place for collectors and
art lovers to meet and share and enjoy pieces that bring back memories and the patrimonial culture of the city. The feria has unique objects where you can learn the stories behind each piece. Hours are from 10-17:00.
Plan para revitalizar escalinata y puentes – Architect Paúl Chango has proposed revitalization projects for a stairway and 3 bridges after 10 years of research and a bad experience as a teen when he was robbed on the stairs at El Vado. The proposal at El Vado for the stairs and the pedestrian path to the U. of Cuenca would reuse the different areas to create a plaza, cafeteria, co-working space, and exhibition hall as well as an elevator. At the Todos Santos Bridge, the proposal is for an auditorium and space to show films.

The project proposed by architect Paúl Chango would transform the area on the Rio Tomebamba connecting the University of Cuenca and the El Vado district.
The bridge at De Las Américas y Primero de Mayo would have a cafeteria underneath due to the large number of people who practice sports in the zone. <Looking at the drawing, I’m wondering if the cafeteria will be above the water line of the Yanuncay after a long, hard rain.> The Tres Puentes area will see a museum underneath the 3 bridges and include an underground passage that would connect the bust of Carlos Cueva Tamariz to a new tower which would become a lookout point. <I guess this is one approach to the problem of the homeless (or is unhoused the politically correct term now?) – displacing the unhoused by filling up the space so that there’s no place to camp under the bridges.>
En Pumapungo inscribe a taller gratuito de animación – There will be a free workshop in stop motion animation for teens from 12 to 15 years old at the Museo Pumapungo from August 26 to 29 from 9:00-13:00. <So if you have kids or grandkids that need something to do during summer vacation besides veg out with their phones, here’s something.> The workshop is part of the Festival Guagua Cine. Registration is on line by filling out a form on the social networks of the Museo Pumapungo. <Looks like you’ll have to do your own research to find the form. If you can’t figure it out, ask that 12 to 15 year old.> Spaces are limited.
