Muestra de fotografía – Argentinian Alejandra Cultrera came to photograph Ecuador and visited the cities of Otavalo and Quito, and the provinces of Cañar, Azuay and El Oro. <I wonder about average newspaper readers if they have to be told which of those places are cities and which are provinces. Only newly arrived foreigners could be excused for not knowing.> The show opened Friday in the Museo Remigio Crespo.

Exposición fotografía – The photographic exhibit, “Conmemoración al Día de las Mariposas” (Commemoration of Butterfly Day) opened Friday in the Salón del Pueblo. The objective is to sensitize the viewer about the problem of violence towards women.

Muestra de arte – The República Sur Centro Cultural is having an exhibit of work by young artists in tribute to women, on their day.

Teatro de Títeres – El domingo a las 11:00 at the AtrapaSueños Centro Cultura is for family theater and puppets. This week’s production will be “Tala Talavera” from the Colombian puppet theater group, “El Botón de Teatro de Títeres” (The Puppet Theater Button).

CCE publications – CCE announced the 10 works that it will publish in the season starting 3/2019. The genres include poetry, narrative, graphic books, theater, and photo essay. Go to www.elmercurio.com.ec under the headline “10 obras publicará CCE del Azuay” for the names of the winners.

Orquesta Sinfónica de Cuenca – The symphony performed Friday in the teato Pumapungo with guest pianist Campoelías Peñafiel who will play Franz Liszt’s Concerto No. 1 for Piano and Orchestra. Also on the program will be Debussy’s Imágenes No. 2, Iberia Suite, and the Sinfonía op. 18 by José Rolón.

Teatro – “4 Confesiones desde el Purgatorio” (4 Confessions from Purgatory) will be staged until mañana a las 19:30 in El Prohibido Centro Cultural.

Public announcements –

ETAPA – Temporary interruption of information services. El domingo, 11/3 from 7:00-16:00, it will suspend collection services at payment locations and on line. The suspension is to update the information systems.

Traffic restrictions – Starting el lunes, 12/3 traffic will be restricted on the Milchichig bridge. Light vehicles only can use the redondel Hurtado de Mendoza. Heavy traffic including city buses will be rerouted. Lines 7, 10, 26, & 100 are affected.

CPC (Citizens Participation Council) – The temporary CPC considers the naming of a Comptroller, Attorney <General?>, and Superintendent of Communication and Information as its most urgent work.

Plan económico – The government has delayed announcing Pres. Moreno’s economic plan until late marzo.

Colombia – FARC, the ex-guerrilla force turned political party, has lost its presidential candidate for the 27/5 elections. Rodrigo Londoño withdrew because of health issues and supposed lack of guarantees. Londoño underwent heart surgery el miércoles and would not be able to stand an intense campaign in which he has already been an object of verbal and physical aggression.
