Pictorial Show – “La Gravedad siempre gana” (Gravity always wins) <My butt will attest to the truth of that.> by Gabriel Zamora will open on jueves a las 19:00 in the Museo Municipal de Arte Moderno (MMAM).

Conversation – “La Andariega,” a journalism project will start el jueves a las 20:00 in the Cinema Cafe (Pres. Córdova y Luis Cordero) with a conversation about how journalistic activity marks the pulse of the city.

Viernes Cultural Salesiano – This Cultural Friday event will be a pasillo show el viernes a las 20:00 in the teatro Carlos Crespi at the U. Politécnica Salesiana (UPS). Musicians from Quito, Guayaquil and Cuenca will play. Free.

Road improvements – The Felipe Segundo Bridge will be made two way and be closed for 45 days during the remodeling. Some of the planting areas will be reduced to increase the turning radii at the intersections and some surrounding streets will be made one way to improve traffic at the Solano-27 de Febrero intersection. Other zones such as the intersections of av. México, av. De Las Américas, av. Loja, 10 de Agosto will have changes in the surrounding streets.

Surgery – The first jaw reconstruction surgery (vascularized free fibula transfer for the maxillofacial reconstruction of a patient) was performed in the “Vicente Corral Moscoso” Hospital last miércoles. The operation lasted 12 hours with a team of 13. This type of surgery would cost $40,000 in the private sector.

Low cost island vacation – Travel agents say Cuencanos are interested in the Isla Margarita in Venezuela as a vacation destination. In past years, when the “pearl of the Carribean” was booming, packages cost $1,300 with enough demand to fill charter flights. Now packages start at $569 per person and include air, transfers and lodging in 3 star hotels for 4 nts, 5 dys with breakfast, lunch, supper, am and pm snacks, free drinks at certain times, and a mall shopping tour. Adidas cost $15, and MAC make up costs $2. <But is it a color anyone who lives on Earth could wear?> A ceviche on the beach costs $.30 <How much does a street ceviche cost in Cuenca?>, and a lobster plate $5.50. The island is capturing shoppers who used to fly to Panamá. The hotels on the island have formed alliances with airlines and major agencies.

Volcán Wolf – Experts are studying the Wolf Volcano as well as other volcanoes in the Galapagos to understand how they erupt. They are doing mapping and field work on the lava emitted during a Wolf eruption from mayo-julio, 2015 and other flows from previous periods of eruption to assess both short and long term danger.

Glas – Another complaint against VP Glas was submitted to the Prosecutor’s office ayer for allegedly soliciting bribes in the Caminosca case.

Caguanapamba – The 450 families in this community 5 km from the El Tambo canton are involved in community tourism under the name, Kuya Llakta (a place of peace and harmony). It has attracted foreigners who live with a family and learn and participate in the daily life – milking cows, grazing alpacas, planting, harvesting and preparing food. There are several paths to take – on horseback to a sacred lake, fishing and horse training tour, medical plants tour. There are intercultural fiestas at night – food, music and dancing.

Artesanal beer -Kuritambo is producing 3 kinds of beer in Azogues – a “rubia” (blond – light? pale?) at 5% alcohol, a “roja” (red) at 6% and a “negra” (black) at 7%. <I have no idea if colors are how you describe beer in English. So you’ll just have to try them.>
