Concierto – The Orquesta Sinfónica de la U. de Cuenca will play el miércoles, 17/1 a las 20:00 in the Museo Catedral Vieja (Sucre y Luis Cordero). The program will include Polonesa from “Eugene Onegin” Op. 24 by Tchaikovsky, “Del Nuevo Mundo” (New World Symphony) by Dvorak, and a work for oboe and violin by Bach.

International Writers Conference – The Tercera Conferencia Internacional de Escritores will be from 28 de Mayo hasta 1 de Junio, 2018 en el Museo de la Ciudad. It is hoped that 100-200 writers from No. and So. America, of all levels, genres and abilities will attend. The sessions on various topics will be in English, and as the conference grows, in Spanish as well. Car registration – The registration schedule for 2018 started today throughout the country with a new fee schedule for the 173 services ANT provides. Renewal of Type A and B licenses will go from $65 to $68 which doesn’t include $20 paid to training schools for administering the “examen de destrezas” (skill test). <Nor does it include the medical exam and psychiatric exam for those over 65. You need to show that you’re still mentally fit enough to operate a vehicle. Yubar Park – This park is located in the Parig sector of Guachapala canton 20 minutes from Paute. It is located on the peak of Yubarrión hill. There are extreme sports such as ziplining and something called the Tarzán Swin as well as nature walks and talks on weekends. The extreme sports are on weekends and holidays and cost $5.00.

Perú – A 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck the Arequipa region in the south of Perú yesterday. One person was killed and 65 injured with over 100 houses collapsed.

Peruvian Pacer horse show – The Campeonato Regional del Caballo del Paso Peruano was in the Cuartel Dávalos and had entries from Quito, Guayaquil, Loja and Azuay with invitatees from Chiclayo, Piura, Arequipa and Lima, Peru.
