Corozones de Oro (Hearts of Gold) has posted several requests for donations to our Yard Sale and to help our beneficiaries. Part of your donations are given directly to families who cannot afford these essentials, helping them meet their most urgent needs with dignity. Other items are carefully selected and sold through our D’Ellas Yard Sales, generating income that helps sustain the programs of the foundation supporting children, families, and long-term community development.
Of course we will continue to ask for your support, but today I just want to express our gratitude to all those who have made donations, both material goods as well as monetary. And a big hug and thank you to all the volunteers who work long hours for no pay because they all truly have hearts of gold.

In order to buy real estate in Ecuador it is important to know that the purchase can only be made through a Public Deed granted by sellers and buyers in a Notary’s office in Ecuador. After the purchase-sale deed is granted at the Notary’s Office, it must be entered in the Property Registry so that the purchase is registered in the name of the buyers.
It is necessary to be aware that if you want to buy real estate, a private contract won’t work even if you have witnesses signing with the buyers and sellers since the law establishes that the only valid document that demonstrates an act of purchase and sale of real estate or a vehicle is through a public deed in the case of real estate; and, contract in the case of vehicles, granted in any Notary of Ecuador.

When a foreign citizen uses a real estate property as support for his/her temporary visa, this property immediately acquires a prohibition to sell or transfer also known as “prohibition to alienate”, this figure assures that this property will continue to serve as support for as long as the person holds the temporary visa. However, once the foreign citizen has obtained the permanent visa, he/she can request the lifting of the prohibition of alienation to sell, donate, assign or transfer the real estate in any way he/she wishes, since this prohibition will only be in force until the permanent visa is obtained.
In order to carry out the process of lifting the prohibition of alienation it will be necessary to have a “certificate of encumbrances” issued by the property registry of the city, which will later be submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility so that they, as an authorized Institution, review this request and once it is admitted, order by means of an official letter addressed to the property registrar, the lifting of such prohibition.
If you find yourself in need of selling a real estate property with a prohibition of alienation and you need legal assistance, contact Ulloa Zamora & Delgado Legal Solutions, where you will be assisted by attorney Lina Ulloa, a lawyer with a doctorate in law and specialist in immigration law and real estate.

If you’ve ever adored those classic Hush Puppies—with their long ears and soulful charm—you’re already halfway in love. Millie is a beautiful hound girl with those signature, melting eyes… the kind that seem to understand you before you say a word.
But Millie is more than her looks; she is heart.
At approximately 10 years young, Millie has spent her life as part of a family. And in moments like these, when circumstances change, moving into a shelter environment would be overwhelming for a dog like her. That’s why finding her a loving home now is so important.
Here’s what makes Millie so special:
💛 A Social Butterfly – She gets along beautifully with both dogs and cats. She’s already mastered the art of sharing her space and her love.
💛 House-Trained & Easygoing – She knows the rhythms of home life and fits right in.
💛 Gentle & Well-Adjusted – A calm, adaptable spirit who thrives in companionship.
💛 Low Maintenance – No special diet, just a good appetite and a little gum care.
💛 A True “Velcro Dog” – Like many hounds, Millie will happily stay close by your side, offering quiet loyalty and constant affection.
Imagine slow mornings, a loyal companion by your side, and those soulful eyes looking up at you with gratitude every single day. If you feel that pull in your heart, reach out to FAAN to meet Millie at info@FAANEcuador.org 096-920-9764

The last paragraph of Article 84 of the Regulation establishes that “For purposes of continuity of permanence, the foreign person may not leave the country for more than ninety (90) days during the entire period of validity of the temporary residence visa”

There’s been a growing conversation in the U.S. around “solo aging” and solo living awareness; particularly as more people are living independently without traditional family support structures.
Organizations like AARP have begun highlighting this shift, noting that a significant and increasing number of adults are navigating later life on their own (estimated at over 24 million).
It made me curious how — or if — this shows up in expat communities, especially in places like Cuenca, where many people are building long-term lives abroad as retirees or independent workers.
In these contexts, the “support side” of life isn’t always as visible or built-in as it might have been back home.
Do you feel like this is something people here are thinking about?
Or does it feel less relevant in this context?
I’d be really interested to hear perspectives. Feel free to comment or message me if you’d rather share privately.

For more than a year, a team of Expats, Cuencanos, and medical professionals has been developing the Cuenca Care Foundation (CCF)—a high-quality, medically supervised, bilingual home health care and support service for the Cuenca area. Planned services include post-surgical care, companionship and assistance with activities of daily living, palliative and hospice care, emergency call button services, and educational seminars of interest to seniors.
Based on guidance from the Ministry of Health and our legal advisors, CCF expects to receive incorporation as a community-supported non-profit foundation in late May, with services launching in Q4, 2026.
Significant foundational work has already been completed, including the development of nursing procedures and protocols; identification of required equipment and supplies; partnerships with local nursing schools; selection of an accounting team and client management and nurse scheduling software; and a successful initial fundraising campaign. This early support has validated strong demand for our services, particularly within the Expat community.
CCF is now seeking applications for its Executive Director. Working closely with the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will provide visionary leadership; oversee day-to-day operations; ensure regulatory compliance; build community partnerships; and advance the Foundation’s mission and strategic goals. In collaboration with a consulting Medical Advisor, the Executive Director will recruit, manage, and support a growing team that will include a Director of Nursing, a Director of Client Relations (social worker), an office manager, and nursing supervisors, auxiliary nurses, and home care providers.
During its first year, CCF’s clients will primarily be Expats. In years two and three, services will expand to support Cuencano families caring for elderly relatives.
