42 artists, including six Ecuadorians, selected for International Bienal
Artists chosen for international art bienal
Cuenca’s 12th International Art Bienal opens March 28 with 42 artists from Latin America, Asia, Europe and North America.
The final selections, announced by the Bienal organizing committee, include six Ecuadorian artists. The Bienal will be hosted by the Museum of Modern Art, Colegio Benigno Malo, La Casa de los Arcos, Sala Proceso, Salon de Pueblo and the Medical Museum.
The museums were chosen to form a walking circuit for spectators, the committee said. In past years, some exhibit locations were too far from Centro to allow walking from one to another.
According to Bienal curator Jacopo Crivelli, the selection of the six Ecuadorian artists was the most satisfying aspect of of the selection process. “It shows the local work stands up to any work in the world,” Says Cirvellihe said. “It sends a message about the quality of our talent.”
The Ecuadorian artsits are Adrian Balseca, Mauricio Bueno, Saskia Calderon, Jose Hidalgo, Juan Pablo and Manuela Ribadeneira Ordonez.
Crivelli says this year’s bienal will be one of the strongest in the event’s 24 years’ existence. “We will have visitors and art writers from all over the world to observe the show. We are ready to get going.”
Cuenca’s bienal is the second largest in Latin America, according to Bienal literature.
