Customs updates list of products travelers can bring into the country tax-free

May 28, 2017 | 0 comments

The National Customs Service of Ecuador (Senae) has relaxed its allowances of what travelers are allowed to bring into the country tax-free. The rules apply to Ecuadorian citizens and permanent residents as well as tourists.

The allowance for tv sizes has been increased.

Among the major changes are the increase in size of televisions and computer monitors allowed, from 22 inches to 32 inches, and an allowance of four kilos of food supplements.

Other new tax-free allowances include desktop printers, up to $300 in value, and drones of up to $500 in value.

Among procedural changes, Senae now only requires passengers who carry taxable goods (those that exceed the quantity / value / measure not on the tax-free list) to fill out the customs form.

For the full list of changes to the tax-free products list, go to the customs website.
