Book presentation – “Yo soy el mal” (I am evil) by Nicolás Esparza was presented Tuesday in the Palier Café Libro (Luis Cordero y Pres. Córdova).

Otro Espacio – There will be a meeting Wednesday a las 17:00 in the Sala de Conciertos at the CCE with the theme “Mujer y Democracia” (Women and Democracy). Otro Espacio is a project that proposes meetings to talk about themes with a collective interest.

“Los niños pintores” (Children painters) – This work by Juan Pablo Líger will be presented Thursday, a las 19:00 in the CCE. The work <and I can’t tell if it’s a book, paintings, photos, or what> is a tribute to the children in refugee camps in Hiroshima (1945), Prague (1942) and Aleppo (2016) and the drawings and letters they made.

Alianza Francesa – The Alianza Francesa has events planned for Wednesday about women. There will be a round table on “Mujer artista en Ecuador: representaciones y experiencias” (Woman artist in Ecuador: representations and experiences) a las 19:00 in the auditorium. 4 women will be participating – Juana Estrella (theater), Gabriela Andrade (plastic arts), Synnove Urgilés (dance), and Sara Vanegas (literature).

Fondos Concursables 2017-2018 (Competitive Funds, 2017-2018) – There were 16 winners of these arts funds.

Otras cosas –

Titular – Desaprueban compra de buses Euro 5 (Purchase of Euro 5 buses disapproved) – The Cantonal Council repealed parts of the resolution passed last septiembre which required bus operators to buy buses with Euro 5 technology. Now they can buy other models such as Euro 2 and 3. <Don’t forget that electric bus!>

Plan for rural women – Ecuador is proposing a plan to establish policies to give priority attention to rural women at the meeting of the UN Commission on the Social and Legal Status of Women. Over 1/3 of the world’s population are rural women of whom, 43% are farmers.

Assembly president – Elizabeth Cabezas of AP declared as a candidate for the presidency of the National Assembly. However, after meetings last viernes, there was not a consensus. Only 22 of the 44 on the Alianza Pais bench supported her.

Economic growth – The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (Cepal) is predicting that Brazil’s economic rebound will spur economic growth in Latin America with Ecuador predicted to grow 1.3%. Other countries expected to grow are Chile-2.8%, Colombia-2.6%, Perú-3.5%, México-2.4%, Panama-5.5%, Dominican Republic-5.1%, Nicaragua-5%, Argentina-2.2%,and Bolivia-4.0%. Venezuela’s GDP is expected to fall 5.5% in 2018 after a 9.5% fall in 2017.

Public announcement – ETAPA announced possible interruptions in water service to Ricaurte, Huajibamba, Jardines del Río, Capulispamba y Ucubamba Alto. There was damage to a line from the potable water treatment plant in Tixán to the reservoirs feeding those areas. If you need the services of a water tanker, call ETAPA at 100.

Graffiti – The city will be starting a campaign next week, in areas of the city where walls have been tagged.

Tranvía – Traffic will be restricted in three locations due to Tranvía work. The first is on Mariscal La Mar between Miguel Morocho y Luis Pauta, the second is also on La Mar between Miguel Heredia y Octavio Cordero. The third area is in the Milchichig bridge sector. Light vehicles can continue to use the redondel Hurtado de Mendoza. They will also share one traffic lane of the bajada de Milchichig. Buses and heavy vehicles will be detoured.

“Fashion Art 2018 Decoración, Gastronomía y Diseño (Design)” – The 3d edition of this event will be 13, 14, 15/4 at the Mansión Vizcaya for the fiestas de Cuenca. There will be 80 exhibiters inside and another 15-20 on the grounds where the food festival will be located.

Fashion – Designer Pablo Ampuero will present his new collection el 15 de marzo a las 20:00 in the Museo de Arte Moderno. There will be a runway parade with the Fundación Reinas de Cuenca modeling bridal, formal and simple dresses.
