The government has launched an effort to make Ecuador a more attractive destination for Chinese tourists. According to Patricio Tamariz, Deputy Minister of Tourism, the plan involves increasing advertising aimed at the Chinese market.

The tourism ministry reports that of the 1.3 million foreigners who visited Ecuador in 2013, only 13,000 were Chinese. “It is estimated that 90 million Chinese will travel abroad in 2014 and we would like to increase the number of them who visit Ecuador,” says Tamariz. He says that the government’s goal is to attract 100,000 Chinese in the next four years.
