Revista – The 5th edition of “Fuera de campo,” published by the Film School of UDA will be presented el jueves a las 19:30 in the Pálier Café-Libro (Cordero y Córdova).

Book launch – “El ayer latiendo en el hoy. Historias contadas de una Cuenca de antaño” (Yesterday beating in today. Stories told of Cuenca of yesteryear) by Susana Pesántez Sarmiento will be presented mañana a las 19:00 in the Salón de la Ciudad.

Concierto de piano – The Escuela de Piano “Constantino Mendoza” will present a concert Tuesday a las 18:30 in the Catedral Vieja. Free.

Festival “Lirón Lirón” – 4/2 is the last day for groups, companies and individuals in dance, theater, circus and puppets to register to be part of the Festival De Artes Escénicas para Niños y Niñas “Lirón Lirón” (ACAY). The festival will be from 7-22/4 at various venues in Azuay and Cañar. Register at goo.gl/LGBjW4.

Teatro – “María Lluvia” is a story written by Mabel Petroff when she was 13 and will be staged under the title “El Diario de María Lluvia” el domingo a las 11:00 at the AtrapaSueños Centro Cultural. The production will feature two actors and puppets. Cost: $3.00 & 5.00.

Titular – Con simulacro, consulta pasa primera prueba (With simulation, referendum passes first test) – The 2nd simulation, held yesterday, tested and evaluated the system of transmission and publication of election results.

Reverdeder el país (regreen the country) – The Environmental Ministry reforested a zone in the geobotanic reserve of the Pululahua volcano near Quito with the support of North Face, a US company. 5,000 native trees were planted in 7 hectares and other projects are planned in various zones, especially in protected areas.

Christmas decorations – The tree in the plaza del Otorongo and street decorations will be taken down by the end of the month.

Carnaval in Tarqui – Tarqui will celebrate Carnaval el domingo, 11/2 with el corso carnavalero (Corsican? carnaval), cuy festival, comparsas, election of a Queen and Taita Carnaval and more.

Landslide reparation – The city has signed a contract to mitigate a landslide that started in 2 012 in the ciudadel Jaimo Roldós and barrio Los Pinos with a reinforced earth wall and drainage. 6 houses will need to be demolished. Owners are not in agreement with the compensation.

Search – 2 kayakers were lost in the río Abanico in Macas when a group was swept away by the current. One Northamerican survived and reported the accident. The body of Northamerican Alexander Alfred McGourty was recovered. The missing kayakers are Irishman David Higgins, and Adam Nicholas Vaughan from England.
