Events in Cuenca: Inti Raymi celebrations planned; Corpus Christi next week; The tranvía honors dads
Cuenca universities will celebrate an academic and cultural ‘Raymi’: Cuenca will be the site of “El Raymi de las Universidades y Diversidades” from the 16 to 21 June. The events will be at various venues and include talks about ancestral knowledge, traditional medicine, and the Andean cosmovision, relating to the solstice.

The Inti Raymi solstice celebration is held each year at the Ingaprica ruins, in Cañar Province, north of Cuenca.
El lunes, 16/6, there will be an anthropological conference with Alfredo Narváez and the screening of the “Tiempos de la tierra” documentary in the Centro de Investigation, Innovación y Transferencia Tecnológica (CIITT) in the Universidad Católica de Cuenca.
On martes, 17, there will be projects, talks and cleansings with the participation of experts in traditional and intercultural medicine at the Biblioteca de la Casa Matriz of the U. Católica.
On miércoles, 18/6 there will be conferences and gastronomy demonstrations to honor cultural syncretism. A pampa mesa will be prepared with conversations about Inti Raymi and Corpus Christi. Books and documents in kichwa, Spanish and English will be presented. This will be in the Seminario San Luis. On jueves, 19/6, the focus will be on “Gobernanza basada en valores andinos y nuevos liderazgos” (governance based on Andean values and new leaderships).
On el viernes, 20/6, There will be a ceremony to deliver a priesthood staff, and artistic presentations by universities from Ecuador, México, Perú and Colombia at the colliseo “Aguilas Rojas.” The close of the event will be el sábado, 21/6 with the Inti Raymi ceremony at Ingapirca in Cañar.
Inti Raymi celebrations in Cañar: Activities will start this weekend and end el domingo, 22/6. The program starts this viernes in the Cojitambo Parish in Azogues Canton with the opening of the 19th Festival del Maíz with activities running for 3 days in the central park and the archeological ruins. Festivities in the Complejo Arqueológico Ingapirca in Cañar Canton will run from viernes, 20 to domingo, 22/6. Inti Raymi will also be celebrated in the plaza Guantug with the municipality and the Unión Provincial de Comunas y Cooperativas Cañaris (UPCCC) from viernes to domingo.
Corpus Christi: This traditional festival will be from June 19 to 26 with 134 stands around the New Cathedral and Parque Calderón selling enough sweets to make your teeth ache and your dentist ecstatic. The sweets will be blessed el domingo, 22/6 during a mass at 12:00.
Serenade for fathers on rails: On el viernes, 13/6, the Tranvía will offer a serenade on the train for its riders starting at the Río Tarqui stop at 19:25 and finishing a las 20:38. The Trío Antaño will perform boleros and pasillos to honor fathers on their day.
Book launch” ‘Aunque vagues perdido’ (Even if you wander lost) by Juan Carlos Astudillo Sarmiento will be launched el jueves, 12/6 a las 19:00 at Pedregal Azteca (Estévez de Toral 8-60 y Bolívar). This book is part of a poetry collection from publisher Severo. As part of the program, the ‘La Doble’ band will play a concert on the restaurant’s terrace a las 21:00.
