Faces of Cuenca: Juan Vaculima, fireworks artisan

Oct 27, 2015 | 0 comments

Juan Vaculima, 26years old, has been a Cuenca artisan for many years. He builds the fireworks castles that will light up the evening around Parue Calderon during Cuenca’s coming independence celebration. His work involves designing and timing the sequence of fireworks, painstakingly connecting hundreds of yards of fuses in each of his castles.

His motivation: “Dar gusto a la gente por medio de las cosas que haga expectaculos.” (To provide joy to the people by his spectacular displays).

Here, Juan builds a castle for the Corpus Christi celebration. Photos by Jeremy Mogrovejo.
