A heartwarming rescue effort from Quito, Ecuador, is going viral after a dog trapped in thick, spilled tar was saved by first responders and civilians on November 13. The situation unfolded when a tanker truck overturned, releasing an enormous amount of tar onto the ground, and leaving the helpless animal stuck, covered, and struggling to breathe.

Rescue workers release a dog trapped in tar after a tanker truck overturned near Quito.

Footage captured by Alex Pila shows the dog desperately trying to escape the sticky mess but unable to move. Completely coated in tar and visibly exhausted, the dog’s chances of survival appeared slim until two Good Samaritans and an emergency responder stepped in.

To avoid getting trapped themselves, the rescuer strategically laid down metal sheets across the molten tar, creating a safe path to reach the dog. Working slowly and carefully, the group pulled at the tar layer by layer, eventually freeing the pup from the life-threatening situation. Their patience and teamwork paid off as the dog was finally lifted out of the spill.

Local reports revealed that the massive spill occurred after a semi-truck, allegedly operating without an environmental permit, overturned while transporting an estimated 10,000 tons of tar. The incident raised significant concerns about transport regulations and environmental safety in the region.

Despite the dangerous conditions, the rescuers’ quick thinking and compassion ensured the dog made it out alive. The video has sparked widespread appreciation online, with many hailing the rescuers as real-life heroes.
