Ingapirca – The Archeological Site Museum at the Ingapirca Archeological Complex will be inaugurated el próximo lunes a las 10:00. <Would be interesting to go to for the people watching.>

“Semillero de Artistas” – This incubator project by CCE and Inclusionarte is looking for artists and cultural managers to teach. The program will have two cycles, the first from 6/3-24/5 and the 2nd from 2/10-20/12. There will be an open house at the end of each cycle.

Award – A Quito university awarded the XLII National “Aurelio Espinosa Pólit” Award for Literature to Roberto Ramírez for his novel, “No somos tu clase de gente” (We are not your kind of people). <What a great title! I should buy it in the hope that one day I’ll be able to read it.>

Interview – Lara Almarcegui, a Spanish artist and invitee to the XIV Bienal was interviewed. She has concentrated her career investigating abandoned places in cities and their surrounds. <Like Hitler’s hidden bunker?> She offered a review of her work Friday in the auditorium of the Fundación Bienal (Bolívar 13-89 y Estévez de Toral).

Noche cultural – The “Viernes Cultural Salesiano” (Salesian Cultural Friday) program at the UPS opened Friday en el teatro Carlos Crespi with Rondalla Cañari. The program will be Ecuadorian songs.

“Performance” – This presentation by the 5th and 6th cycle students in digital journalism and graphic design was hoy a las 19:00 in the Museo de la Ciudad. <Sounds like there was a little bit of everything – 25 photos, digital information, classical violin players, and air dancers.>

OSC – Friday’s concert the teatro Carlos Cueva Tamariz featured guest soloist Jeong Heum Yeon, playing Beethoven’s Emperor piano concerto.

Titular – EMAC EP da abono gratis por basura orgánica (EMAC EP giving free fertilizer for organic waste) – You can bring your compostable waste (fruit and vegetable peels, lawn clippings and pruning trimmings) to the Trueque Ambiental de EMAC. (Environmental Barter at EMAC) <EMAC is the garbage company which is one of the municipal businesses.> EMAC will trade you organic compost for your garbage at a ratio of 1:10. You can also buy the fertilizer and plants. The Trueque is in the casa BioEMAC on 24 de Mayo diagonal from the colegio Manuela Garaicoa with hours are from 9-16:00. If you bring in small amounts, the weights will go into a register until you accumulate enough. The program started on 30/11 and they collect about 90 kg a day with an average of 9 people. Do not bring meat, fish, dairy solids, soup or blood scraps. <Put a compost pail under your sink – or somewhere else if the area under your sink is as stuffed as mine.>

Mining – Representatives from social, indigenous, and environmental groups marched in Quito to ask the Comptroller to audit 7 mining projects pushed during the Correa administration, and to ask for the removal of Xavier Córdova, Mining Minister. The largest mines are the Fruta del Norte which is the largest open pit mine in Ecuador, and the Cóndor Mirador.

Growth – The IMF raised its forecasts for growth in 2018 for Chile (2.5-3%), Colombia (2.8-3%), Ecuador (.6-2.2%), and Peru (3.8-4%). Venezuela was expected to contract by 15%. Predictions for Latin American growth are 1.9% in 2018 and 2.6% in 2019. If these projections weren’t weighted down by Venezuela, growth would be 2.5% in 2018 and 2.8% in 2019.

Oil sales – An oil magnate was interviewed about presales of crude to Petrochina which caused losses of $2 billion to the state. Through intermediaries, the crude was resold to Chevron.

Voting Page – The articles are about question 4 which says, “Are you in agreement with amending the Constitution of the República del Ecuador so that there is no statute of limitations for sexual crimes against children and adolescents, according to Annex 4. <At least I think that “prescriban” would be the same as a statute of limitations. Currently the crime “goes away” after the same amount of time a sentence served would have expired.

Talk – There was a talk at the Municipal Planetarium on “Las estrellas y tú” (The stars and you) hoy a las 19:00.
