Hola, Todos –

Pagina cultural –

Today’s (Thurs.) agenda events –

First Human Anatomy Book – A reproduction of “Humana Corporis Fabrica,” drawn and published by Andrea Vesalio in 1543 was donated to the U. of Cuenca this afternoon.  (Wonder how it compares with Gray’s Anatomy?)

Ópera – There was a performance of “Pasión de Dolores” for students Thurs. The public performance is Fri. at 8 at the Sucre Theater.

Upcoming and ongoing agenda events –

Muestra pictórica (Picture show, but not moving pictures) – An exhibit of the paintings of Ismael Álavarez Bueno is at the Galería de la Alcaldía (calle Bolívar y Borrero).

Articles about –

Bienal – Two art educators, Jazmín Guerrero from México and Jesús Morate from Spain, are artists in residence during the Bienal and are part of the “Conexiones” project to strengthen relations between contemporary art and the public.  (Put it all in one big venue and put a Starbucks in the middle.  Just like at in The Forbidden City.)

FIMAC – The Festival continued yesterday in el Centro Cultural El Prohibido  (If you go, I think you may need to define music pretty broadly.  Beyond Rahsaan Roland Kirk?  I’m trying to listen to him, but listening to him requires full attention so it’s either listen or translate.)  At the same time and place, there will be an event that converts the sound of cooking food to music. (Something for you foodies, too.)

Ley de Cultura – According to the law, historical archives of the country, public and private, are considered spaces for research and conserving the social memory.  As these documents pass their useful life, they should be available in a national “red” (network – a pretty useful word – it applies to social networks, too) of national archives as well as private collections that want to be added.  René Cardoso, director of the Museo Remigio Crespo, adds that administrative and technical policies about restoring and preserving the archives as well as training for responsible personnel, should be included.

Bienal – The Museo Catedral Vieja is the venue for an audiovisual work from Danica Dakic of Bosnia.

Ley de Cultura – The new law worries the local CCE branches. The law mandates provincial elections for the CCE’s in 120 days, and abolishes previous rules. (Sounds like getting thrown into the middle of a game you’ve never played before.)

Otras cosas –

Titular – Tranvía: las obras están abandonadas (Tram: works are abandoned) – Along av. España, there is redesign work to allow widening of sidewalks, and in some places, the construction of sidewalks.  Work will start in the stretch between the Chola Cuencana and av. Sebastián Benalcázar.  “Por otro lado,” (On the other hand – your expression of the day) work in Milchichig is abandoned and overgrown with weeds.

Currently, the only work is occurring on Sangurima, Gran Colombia at the Casa de las Posada, on De Las Amèricas, Mariscal La Mar and the bridge over the Tomebamba.  The city is hoping the information needed to make the decision on unilateral termination of the contract will be available this week. 29/12/2016 was the day that the project was supposed to be delivered to the city.  A request to extend the contract by 487 days was denied.

Road problems –  A bridge in Zamora Chinchipe collapsed on the vía Loja-Zamora due to rising rivers and a landslide.  One lane of the vía Cuenca-Molleturo-El Empalme at km 53 was closed due to material falling on the road.  (What did I say yesterday about road condition and landslide stories?  And it’s raining right now.)

La Comisión de Biodiversidad – The commission is touring 6 Amazonian provinces to collect support for a project for a Special Amazon law.

Illegal slaughterhouses shut down – A “camal” was recently shut down in the Morocho Quigua sector in southeast Cuenca, in addition to 18 shut down in 2016.  The sanction for operating illegally is getting shut down and a $4.00 fine (looks like there are zeros missing).  The Agencia Ecuatoriana de Aseguramiento de la Calidad el Agro (Agrocalidad – Ecuadorian Agriculture Quality Assurance Agency) is responsible for controlling this industry including safe transport.  The only camal in Azuay that meets complete Agrocalidad standards is in Gualaceo.  The ones in Paute, Sígsig and Cuenca are working to get certified.  To report clandestine camals or inadequate transport, go to Agrocalidad at coodinacion.azuay@agrocalidad.gov.ec.  (I think that’s the address.)

Electrical outage – Electrical service was suspended this morning from 9-13:00 on the following streets: Paseo Huagra Uma, Guapondelig, Río Palora y Rio Cutucú to work on medium voltage structures and switches.  (So if your lights went out this morning, now you know why.)

Discuentos y compras –

Colineal – decorating accessories (decorations, cushions, comforters, lamps, rugs) – 12-15/1 – 20-40% off.

And that´s all for today so Hasta Mañana –

Jeanne
