Lenin Moreno’s popularity remains high in new poll; Country’s mood improves from early 2017

The polling organization Market gives President Lenin Moreno a 76 percent approval rating in a survey conducted in December. The poll also shows that, by a wide margin, Ecuadorians are more optimistic about the country’s future than they were at the start of 2017.

President Lenin Moreno’s popularity remains strong.

In addition, the Market poll showed 84 percent “yes” support for the questions on Moreno’s February 4 popular referendum.

In other survey questions, Guayaquil Mayor Jaime Nebot continues to be the most popular mayor in Ecuador, with and 84.5 percent approval rating while Quito Mayor Mauricio Rodas polled lowest, at less than 15 percent. Cuenca’s Marcelo Cabrera polled 38 percent.

Vice President Jorge Glas received a positive rating of 8.5 percent while former president Rafael Correa was at 18 percent.

The poll surveyed 1,480 voters from Pichincha, Guayas, Manabí and Azuay Provinces, and was conducted between December 16 and December 20.
