Hola, Todos –

Pagina cultural –

Lecture – on the Andean Cosmovision on Wed. at 18:00 in the Museo de la Ciudad (ex Escuela Central – and with that, it’s assumed everyone (every Cuencano that is) knows where to go). Learn about concepts in the Andeanchl jeanne logo culture and the relation between man and nature. (It sure won’t be the US vision that man’s destiny is to exploit nature for profit.) Cost: $10.00, students $5.00.

(Evidently, nothing else is happening. Hey, it’s Semana Santa (Holy Week) and everyone’s supposed to be in church.)

Articles about –

“Libro de oro” (Book of gold), a history of the colegio Benigno Malo, will be updated with an anticipated publication date for next March.

“Arte por la vida” (Art for Life) – will be from 20/4 to 20/5 at the Quinta Bolívar. The theme of the show will be the impact of humans on the environment and especially water. The show is seeking to make people concious that water is a scarce resource being carelessly exploited. The Dirección Municipal de Cultura is looking for painters, sculptors and photographers to enter their work. Enter at the Quinta (sector Gapal) or at: mcorral@cuenca.gob.ec before 31/3. Works must be bigger than 40cm x 40cm and no larger than 100cm x 100cm, framed and/or ready to exhibit. The works to be shown will be selected by 7/4.

“Hablamos del Dolor” (We talk about the pain) – opened today at 11:00 at MMAM along with the work, “Violencía No” (Violence – No). This is a temporally kinetic work (that’s the best description I can think of) which will last a year until Jan, 2017. The plan is to add one photo each day for a total of 366 since it’s an “año bisiesto” (leap-year – your word for the day. Will you remember it in 2016 when it rolls around again?) and compile them into monthly books.

Otras cosas –

Titular – Semana Santa abre tiempo de reflexión (Holy Week opens a time for reflection) (and Easter Week car sales)

Demolition of patrimonial houses – fronting Ordóñez Lasso was approved by the Consejo Cantonal. This will allow the road to maintain a standard width along its full length.

A new marine sanctuary – in the Galápagos started today. The area is between Darwin and Wolf islands inside the Reserva Marina de Galápagos, the 2nd largest in the world, and it harbors the largest biomass of sharks on the planet. (So if the sharks stay in the reserve they won’t wind up in the soup at a Chinese wedding banquet) This “No Take” zone is special protection for “tiburones martillo” (hammer(head) sharks).

Your sliver of life article today – is about traffic, especially during “horas picas” (peak hours/ rush hours). Certain intersections and redondels were mentioned as particularly bad. A new Plan de Movilidad (to improve the inmovilidad) will be ready in August. Some of the solutions include more stoplights, changes in the directions of streets, improving parking, and removing redondels.

Deportes –

Byron Piedra – from Azuay finished in the “Top Ten” in the Media Marathon in NY. He was number 7, with a time of 1:2:35. The winner, a Kenyan, finished in 1:1:16. (The only way I could travel that distance in that time is by motorized vehicle.)

Discuentos –

Indalum – up to 50% off – cookware and bakeware – today to Thu, 24/3 – 9 am to 7 pm – Gil Ramírez Dávalos 418 y Fco. Pizarro. (They have commercial sizes for the fanesca you’re going to make this year, ya?)

Toyota – Fortuner – from $49,990 – credito directo (direct credit – is that from the dealer?) – 20% down, 60 months.

Hyundai – Tucson Diesel – $44,990 incl. IVA & ICE – 100% financing for 36 mo.

Kia – K3000S flatbed truck – from $22,990 incl. IVA & ICE – 60 mo, 1st payment in July. (Half the price if you don’t want or need back seats and interior storage. But I bet you could build something like a camper shell on the bed for under $2,000.)

Guillermo Vazquez – jewelry, watches, accessories – 1,2,&3/4, 10-21:00 – Convention Center, Mall del Río, Salón Yanuncay II.

And that´s all for today so Hasta Mañana –

Jeanne
