The Asociación Stiehle de Alemania (The Stiehle Association of Germany) – will visit El Colegio Alemán de Cuenca on Thu. at 18:00 in the Centro Alemán, salón Juan Bautista Stiehle.

Graphic design course – Estudio 14 (Luis Cordero 11-83 y Gaspar Sangurima) is organizing a course in graphic design, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop from 22-26/8 with hours from 10-12:00 and 15-17:00.  Cost: $75.00.

Theater – “El loco” will be presented on Wed, 24/8 at 20:00 in the teatro de bolsillo del SONO (Borrero y Pres. Córdova)  Cost: $3.00.

Little known history of Cuenca – Cuenca: una ciudad para la eternidad (Siglos XVI-XIX) (Cuenca, a city for eternity (XVI – XIX Centuries).  The city was divided into blocks during Gran Colombia (a political entity consisting of Venezuela, Colombia and Ecuador immediately after Independence), the first woman painter was indigenous, and the 1778 census registered 448 blacks.  (Seems like that number hasn’t changed a whole lot.)

David Pasaca – This artist works on slices of tree trunks on which he engraves poetry.  You can see his work at the Ecomuseo del Yanuncay in the community of Inmaculada, 6 km from San Joaquin. (Don’t blink – you could zip right past even though there’s a sign.)
 
Fondos concursables – the Ministry of Culture has announced $2,000,000 for competitive funds to support culture.

Carnaval Cine – Films of Sebastián Cordero will be shown from the 22-25/8 in the Casa de la Cultura.  (Needless to say, you need to understand Spanish.)

Titular – Río cierra fiesta, ya se alista Tokio 2020 (Río closes fiesta, now on to Tokio 2020).

Airport bus update – Transportation officials clarified luggage rules for passengers taking the Cuenca airport buses to Guayaquil and Quito. Ticket-holders are entitled to two seats, one for themselves and the second for luggage. Additional charges will apply to luggage that does not fit in the second seat. Officials also said that full-sized buses may be used on the Quito route but they will carry a maximum of 20 passengers and make no stops on the way.

Back to school – The supplies most asked for is “material didactico” (teaching material – your words for the day.).
