Hola, Todos –

Pagina cultural –

Upcoming events –

“Rotofest” – There will be 5 electronic music DJs performing this Thu. at 21:00 in the “Rotofest Music On” (Doce de Abril y San Roque).  This is thechl jeanne logo prelude for “Rotofest” which is Sat. Cost: $5.00.

Danza – “LSD”, a work by the U of Cuenca’s Contempory Dance company, will be tomorrow (Wed.) at 20:00 in the teatro Carlos Cueva Tamariz.

“Titeres” (Puppets) – “Cuentos” (Stories) is a theater and puppet performance with new versions of children’s stories.  It will be this Sat and Sun at 17:00 in the centro cultural Imay (El Batán y El Oro).  (The picture shows a pretty scary costume and one little kid sitting in the front looks worried.)

Articles about –

“Lenguajes del deterioro” (Languages of Deterioration) – This is an art exhibit that opens tomorrow (Wed.) at 19:00 in the “Subsuelo” de la Casa de la Cultura (calles Pres. Córdova y Luis Cordero – next to the entrance for the cultural center building.) (Sorry I can’t tell you what this exhibit is about because I got lost in the middle of the first sentence, which is actually a paragraph as well.  As soon as I realized I was reading artspeak, I gave up.)

“Titiricuenca 2016” – This Theater and Puppet Festival started today and will run until Sun., 12/6.  There will be 6 groups performing in and around Cuenca and in nearby cantons.

Eric Spangler – This DJ with a Harvard PhD held a workshop at Sono Studios on Tuesday.

Book launch – Part of “El habla del cuerpo” (Body language?) will be presented this Thu. at 19:00 in the Biblioteca de la Casa de la Cultura.

Otras cosas –

Titular – Condenan a dos de diez Saraguros tras protesta (2 out of 10 Saragurans were condemned after a protest) – In Sept., 2015, Saragurans blocked the Cuenca-Oña-Loja highway.  10 people were detained and 2 were sentenced to 3-4 years in prison for paralyzing public services.  (Wonder how that law could have applied to Flint?)

AH1N1 vaccine – The Ministry of Public Health distributed 300,000 doses of the flu vaccine.  Vaccinations were given in zones where the virus is already circulating and in the earthquake shelters.  This first phase of vaccinations is also targeting children under 5, pregnant women, people over 65 and those with chronic illnesses.  If you run a fever over 38 celsius, have a strong cough or headache and especially if you are having difficulty breathing or feel faint, go to your nearest centro de salud.

Earthquake relief – As of now, Mexico has sent 250 tons of aid in 11 flights.  Latam Cargo shipped it for free.

Prize – La Salsa de Ají con Maracuyá OLÉ won 2 gold stars in a contest in Brussels.

Rain – Monday’s rain and hail caused “estragos” (havoc or destruction – your word for the day.) in the north and south of Cuenca.  The Pirincay overflowed in Ricaurte and there was flooding on the Circunvalación Sur in the Carmen De Guzho sector.

Tow lot – Cars towed for violating parking provisions were towed to a new lot starting yesterday. The lot is in a section of the upper level lot at parque De La Madre.  The offices for you to get your car back are also in that area.  Enter the lot on Doce de Abril y Francisco Tálbot.

And that´s all for today so Hasta Mañana –

Jeanne
