Taller – A workshop on Architectural Drawing for Virtual Reality started Tuesday at the U. of Cuenca. It will run until viernes with 20 total hours of theory and practice.
Conference – The conference on “Mujer, Arte y Ciencia” will be el jueves a las 19:00 in the “Saledentro” Centro Cultural (Bajada de Todos Santos). Free.

Poetry – “Palabra De Río,” with 36 poems inspired by the rivers, by Andrés MÜller was presented Tuesday in the Museo de la Ciudad (Gran Colombia y Benigno Malo).
CD – The poems of Rosalía Arteaga have been set to music in a collaboration with Cuencano composer Eduardo Neira. “Conjuros” (Spells) has been released in Quito and Guayaquil and will be in Cuenca “en próximos días” (in coming days) <Is this another way of saying “mañana?>
Alianza Francesa – The Alianza Francesa has dedicated marzo to art and women, and has several activities planned.

Titular – Confirman altas emisiones de CO2 (High CO2 emissions confirmed) – A study done by Bolivian consultant Servicios Ambientales SA showed Cuecna generates 1.5 million tons of CO2 and each Cuencano emits 2.5 tons which is over the environmental standard of 2 tons. 57% of Cuenca’s carbon footprint is from transportation. The study also covered Cuenca’s water footprint and made various recommendations for improvement.
Minerals – About 90% of the territory of Ecuador has not yet been studied in detail to identify its mineral resources according to Byron Granda who is with the Ecuadorian delegation to the PDAC mining fair in Toronto. This has come to the attention of large mining companies <who are probably eyeing Ecuador the way a shark eyes a seal.>.
Flights – CORPAC announced 6 new flights between Cuenca and Quito, and 4 to Guayaquil. The public airline, Línea Aérea del Ecuador <TAME> is flying the Guayaquil routes. Go to www.aeropuertocuenca.ec for flight information.
Consulta – A National Assembly commission met in Cuenca to analyze proposals on how to apply the recent referendum with respect to electing CPCCS (Citizens’ Participation Council) by district.
Charla – There will be a free talk on “Illustración Médica. El arte al servicio de la ciencia” (Medical illustration. Art at the service of science)el 12/3 a las 18:00 in the Fundación CEDEI (Gran Colombia y General Torres). The talk will be given in English by David A. Rini from Johns Hopkins University, with a Spanish translation. <Just thought you might like to know of an event that will be in English.>
Ciudad Saludable – Cuenca has signed an agreement with the Ministerio de Salud Pública (MSP)to adhere to the Programa de Municipios Saludables (Healthy Cities Program). An MSP coordinator said that people all over the world are affected by two types of illnesses – contagious or infectious, and non transmitable chronic diseases. Reducing the first type which includes diarrhea and dengue has much to do with sanitation – potable water, sewer services, garbage collection, etc, and many of these diseases have been reduced including to the point of disappearance. The second type of diseases includes obesity and overweight, diabetes, hypertension and heart attacks. <Which seems to be getting a foothold.>
Expo BE FIT – This expo will be los próximos 10 y 11 de marzo de 10:00 a 18:00 in the Casa del Río de Quinta Lucrecia. There will be 45 vendors offering products and services. Free admission.
Agroecológica store – The farmers of the “Madre Zoila Solórzano” Association have opend a new organic store in the Mercado Municipal of Biblián. Store hours are miércoles, vienes y domingo de 8-16:00.
