Pope Francis will visit Ecuador in July on South American tour
The Vatican announced Monday that Pope Francis will visit Quito the second week in July as part of his South American tour. It will be first papal visit to Ecuador since John Paul II visited Guayaquil and Cuenca in 1985.
During his Quito visit, Francis will deliver masses at local churches and meet with groups of students, according to an article in the Vatican newspaper. Other details of the visit are yet to be worked out, the article said.
Born Jorge Bergoglio in Buenos Aires, Francis is the first pope from Latin America.
Following his visit to Ecuador, Francis plans stops in Bolivia and Paraguay.
