Actualidades – Articles about –

Naia – Was a young woman who lived about 13,000 years ago. She was found in a submerged cave in México in 2007. Her skeleton was very well preserved and the only one in her era for a woman in her child-bearing years. She was 15 or 16 when she died and had probably given birth just months before. Her bones suggested she walked long distances, and that she went through times of famine. Surprisingly, her teeth did not show expected wear which suggested a diet of fruits and proteins rather than grains and seeds. Analysis of her mitochondrial DNA has linked the oldest populations of America with contemporary indigenous groups.

The Benemérito Cuerpo de Bomberos Voluntarios de Cuenca – (The Meritorious Volunteer Fire Brigade of Cuenca) was formed on 12/10/1945 after a big fire on Padre Aguirre y Pres. Cordova. Several stores and homes were involved and two children died – and all anyone could do was watch.

Interview with Hernán Salcedo.

Puyo – Puyo is the capital of Pastaza Province and a gateway into the jungle. The Pastaza River is navigable all the way to the Amazon River. <From there – the Atlantic and London. Might take you a while in a wooden canoe, though.>

Health page – Why you should take yourself to a gym.

Amenidades – “Maluma World Tour” will be in Ecuador in Quito on 27/10 and in Guayaquil on 28/10. On stage with Maluma, “el prettyboy de Colombia,” will be 27 musicians and 6 dancers plus giant special effects screens.

Argentina – 100’s protested in the Plaza de Mayo in Buenos Aires for justice and punishment for those responsible for the “desaparición forzada” (forced disappearance) and death of Santiago Maldonado whose body was identified este viernes, 80 days after he was last seen alive. <I think the Madres de la Plaza de Mayo are still gathering there regularly to protest the disappearances during the military regime 50 years ago.>

Los Salesianos saludan a Cuenca – There will be an event on viernes, 27/10 from 16-22:00 at PRAC <Bolívar y Huayna Cápac> with modern and traditional music and dance, theater, drumming, and stilt walkers. <What? no gastronomia?)
