Otras cosas –

Titular – Tranvía, USD 25 millones en juego (Tram, USD 25 million at stake) – The mediation hearing before the Tribunal Arbitral in Chile started yesterday. The city of Cuenca will defend itself against the Consorcio CCRC’s claim for compensation for the unilateral termination of the contract. <Isn’t non-performance also a way of terminating a contract?> The mediation can end in one of 3 ways – complete agreement, partial agreement, or the impossibility of an agreement through mediation.

Remissions – Remission payments from Ecuador in the first quarter of 2019 were $140.9 million with Colombia, Perú and Venezuela being the main destinations. In that time period, Colombians, Peruvians, and Chinese remitted $114.4 million which represented 81.14% of the total. 72.2% of the remittances came from Pichincha, Guayas, Azuay, Imbabura y Carchi Provinces. By city, Cuenca, Quito, Guayaquil, Tulcán, Ibarra, Santo Domingo and others accounted for 63.7%.

Research into paramos – Cuencana Ana Ochoa was one of 6 people selected from over 100 applicants to be part of a program in the U. of Zurich. The University will provide training and a two year mentoring program to help research into the impact of climate change on the mountains. Ana’s research is to study what happens to the Andean paramos due to climate change. <Oops, mil culpas – climate change is fake news. The smartest people know it’s not true.>

Vacation classes – The Universidad del Adulto Mayor is offering summer workshops. The first is a creative writing class from 12/7 to 19/7. At the end of the workshop, the works by the attendees will be made into a book. The second workshop is for people 68-99 <That’s age discrimination. Why can’t a 100 year old go?> so that the seniors can participate with their family members. The activities will include making marionettes, art therapy, bailoterapia, yoga, first aid, coctelería (making cocktails) <If nothing else, gringos should be able to get behind the coctelería course.>, and more. The workshops will run from 15/7-26/7. Register at the UAM on Estévez de Toral 9.53 entre Bolívar y Gran Colombia.

And that’s all for today so Hasta ? –
