Cine – The documentary film “Con mi corazón en Yambo” (With my heart in Yambo) by María Fernanca Restrepo will be shown el miércoles a las 19:00 in the sala de teatro Imay Cuntro Cultural.

Rock argentino – There will be a Tributo al Rock & Blues Argentino este miércoles a las 20:00 in the Guarida Centro Cultural.

Arte – Youth in the Centro de Adolescentes Infractores (Center for Adolescent Offenders) are learning drawing and painting techniques after which they will paint a 50 meter mural.

Documentary – Daniela Pinos and two other young people are making a fictional documentary of her father, “Don Daniel” Pinos, who will be 94 on 27/2. <Day of the Battle of Tarqui for you trivia-istas.> Don Daniel was a radio announcer on Radio Cuenca, an artist, poet, composer, professor and communicator.

Libro – “Tu vida y la mía” (Your life and mine) by Leonor Muevecela will be launched el viernes, 16/2 a las 19:00 in the Sala de Conciertos in the CCE. She retired from teaching 5 years ago and wrote a book which contains stories, poetry and acrostics. <Writing a book after retirement must be a multi-cultural thing.>

Teatro – “Cuando llegue Rosa” (When Rosa arrives), written and directed by Carlos Gallegos, will premier from 8-10/2 a las 20:00 in the Sala Alfonso Carrasco. Cost: $7.00.

Titular – Pide nombres para nuevo CPC (Asking for names for new CPC) – Assembly president, José Serrano, called a meeting to create multi-party commission which will work on questions 3 (restructuring the CPC) and 6 (Capital Gains Tax). Pres. Moreno will sent a list from which the Asamblea will elect members of the Transition Citizens’ Participation Council. The Assembly has 20 days to elect the members.

Election results – The CNE will announce the official results for the referendum tomorrow. As of yesterday afternoon, 98.6% had been counted, with results from overseas still pending. Voter absenteeism was 18%.

Forum – Cuenca will host the “Foro Continental del Ciudades Intermedias Latinoameríca “Hacia la Agencia 2030” (Continental Forum of Latin American Intermediate Cities “Towards the 2030 Agenda”) from 28/2-2/3. An intermediate city is one with less than a million people and which is on time to grow correctly.

Cuenca is part of the Ciudades y Gobiernos Locales Unidos (CGLU – United Cities and Local Governments) network and Mayor Cabrera is VP of the Intermediate Cities Group. The Municipality’s Director of International Relations, said that Latinamerica is the most urbanized region on the planet. <Do US cities (besides Berzerkeley) have international relations departments?> If you are interested in attending, register at www.cuenca.gob.ec and click on the Foro Internacional de Ciudades Intermedias. There is space for 350 people. Free.

Bike theft – There have been a number of thefts of expensive bikes in the past 3 months. A representative of a cyclists’ group said it seemed the thieves are familiar with the victims since the thefts are mostly from the bike owners’ homes. One of the bikes stolen cost almost $9,000 and another was “kidnapped” with a ransom demand of $2,500 for its return. It’s suspected that the bikes are being stolen for parts.

Inactive bank accounts – Banks are required to transfer the money from inactive accounts to the National Treasury after 5 years of inactivity for accounts smaller than 25% of the basic salary or 10 years for larger accounts. Banks declare the amounts in enero and the money tranferred to the treasury are used for social programs. The banks are not allowed to take the money for their own benefit.

Tranvía – Foreign advisors from the UN Office of Project Services and Tranvía technical staff met today.

Road work – There will be repaving work from 8:00 hoy to viernes, 10/2 on the Panamericana Sur, Cuenca-Girón-Pasaje. The stretch of the Panamericana Sur between Control Sur and Zhucay will be closed to traffic with work going on around the clock. The contractor will have more than 50 people on the job.

Carnaval in Gualaceo – Gualaceo will celebrate with a big parade el domingo a las 10:00 with dancers from Pasto, Colombia; Lima, Perú; and Córdova, Argentina. There will be other activities on jueves, and from sábado to el martes.

Body found in taxi – The body of a man about 55 years old, was found yesterday at about 16:00 in a taxi. Workers in the area said it had been parked in the Emergency area of the IESS hospital since around 10:00. The deceased was in the back seat covered with a blanket. Violent death has been ruled out and an autopsy will be performed.
