Hola, Todos –

Pagina cultural –

Today’s (Fri.) agenda events –

Concierto – A concert of romantic and Latin American music with Caballeros del Sur was Fri. (viernes, just like it says in the heading) in the Teatro P. Carlos Crespi.

Book launch – The Union of Azuayan Journalists is presenting “Perspectiva Periodística Mundial” by Aldolfo Parra at 19:00 in the Hotel Felicia (Luis Cordero 10-57).

Articles about –

Recital – The Literature section of the CCE organized a recital with 5 poets reading their own works and a dance performance in honor of women.  (I wonder how long it’s going to take CCE to burn out all these literary folks.  I wonder if they’re mostly reading to each other, their best friends and their closest family members.)

Review – The theater festival Trazos Escénicos opened last Wed. and included several plays.

“Palabrar” (to say) – The writers’ group in Loja is celebrating its 20th anniversary.

Concierto – The U. of Cuenca is holding masters’ classes for music professionals nationally, and they are having a concert este viernes a las 19:30 in the teatro Sucre.

Cultural interchange – Cuenca and Quito are collaborating on the reopening of the Museo Remigio Crespo.  One of the first exhibits will be a photographic show dedicated to Emmanuel Honorato Vázquez which will open in Cuenca and later travel to Quito.

Otras cosas –

Titular – 20 días claves para captar votos (20 key days to capture votes)  (I see candidates running/wheeling about with butterfly nets swiping at votes.) – see Friday’s CHL article for a more serious view of the elections.

Operation “Victoria” – The police arrested 51 people in a national operation against an extortion ring that victimized families of prisoners.  It included a prisoner at the CRS – Turi.

San Francisco Plaza – The construction contract for the remodeling of the plaza should be awarded next week with the work starting in early next month.  Where the merchants will be relocated will also be announced.  The options are El Otorongo or the streets near the project.  (As if the tram didn’t cause enough traffic Hades.  And are they going to be relocated, corrugated tin roofs and all?)

Polling place change – If you voted at the Manuela de Garaicoa High School, your polling place has been changed to the César Andrade y Cordero High School.

Buses – The Cuenca Transportation Chamber is asking users to please not dirty or damage the buses, respect the preferential seating, and use the bus card to pay.  The Chamber says it continuously trains the drivers in subjects such as client service. (Either the drivers have memory problems or the last time they got trained was in 2010.)

Grief counseling – EMUCE EP, the City Cemetery Company, has a Grupo de Ayuda Mutua (Mutual Aid Group/Support Group). They have talks for up to 40 people at the Casa de la Atención a las Familias de la Municipalidad given by professionals.  If interested direct dial 155.

Forecast – ETAPA is forecasting 90% chance of rain for the next 5 days.  Lenin Álvarez, from ETAPA, explained that the rains are originating in the oriente.  Because of the large amount of vegetation, the moisture rises and is carried into Cuenca. Long range/ large area forecasts say that all of marzo y abril will have above normal precipitation in most of the Latin America.  Álvarez also said that with 2 or 3 days of rain, there could be flooding.  There are alarm systems with visual and audial signals in Misicata, 3 Puentes, Max Uhle near Centro Sur and Balzay.  The alarms are a signal for people to stay away from the river banks.
