Otras cosas –
Titular – En un año se elegirá a sucesor de Rafael Correa (Rafael Correa’s successor to be elected in one year) Election Day will be 19/2/2017 with a run-off on 2/4 if needed. Candidates must declare by 18/8.
Fiestas de Abril – The Permanent Festival Committee is accepting proposals for events to be included in the festival Agenda for the Foundation of Cuenca. Go to El Comité Permanente de Festejos on the 4th floor of City Hall (Bolívar y Borrero). These can be from individuals, public and private institutions, and businesses. (So if you’re planning an art/crafts/stage show in April – here’s a chance to advertise.)
The Botica Olmedo – is back home at San Francisco in the restored Pasaje León building (Pres. Córdova y General Torres). The pharmacy replicated the cabinetry from when the pharmacy opened in 1932 and they sell their own line of cosmetics and personal care products and formulate master medicines. The principal branch on Juan Jaramillo will stay.
IX cabalgata (9th horseride) – to commemorate the Route of the Heroes in the Battle of Tarqui will start this Sat at 8:00 in parque Calderón. I think it’s a two day ride.
EMOV employees – are inspecting buses when they are stopped at the ends of their routes. Technicians are inspecting the glass, tires, emissions (really? if they don’t knock you out they’re within limits?), seats and floors, exhaust, leaks, lights, horn, wipers, rear view mirrors and general condition. They are also inspecting to make sure no one’s attached an air horn. Of the 19 buses inspected at the 27 de Febrero market and in Misicata, 8 were cited for excessive emissions, one for an air horn, and one for not having rear window wipers. (Now what do they make the bus owners do about those emissions? Are the buses taken off the street until they’re fixed? Not good if 10 out of 19 – more than 59% – have citable deficiencies.)
Your sliver of life article today – is about a barrista class being held Fri and Sat. Mexico – Tras su visita en el país más poblado de Centroamérioca, el pontifice manifestó: no se merece un dolor como éste. (After his visit to the most populated country in Central America, the Pope stated: it doesn’t deserve pain like this) (This is my last chance at a word for the day so I’m picking “merece” or merecer – to deserve. This is our geography lesson for the day, too. Mexico is in Central America.)
And that´s all for today so Hasta Domingo –
