Book presentation – “Breve Historia de la Supervisión Educativa de la provincia del Auay, Requiéscat in pace” (Brief History of Educational Supervision of the province of Auay, Rest in Peace) by Mauro Bravo Bravo will be presented today in the Sala de Conciertos at 18:30 in the CCE.

Foto course – The Frente de Mujeres Defensoras de la Pachamama (Front of Women Defenders of Pachamama (Mother Earth)) will have a photography workshop on 29/6 at their headquarters (Luis Cordero y Pres. Ikat – The Museo Artesanal in Gualaceo reopened today after a remodeling. It is located at calle Loja s/n (sin numero or no street number) y Av. Parador Turístico next to the Hostería Santa Bárbara. The museum, which is part of CIDAP, has a showing of ikat weaving. Mañana at 11:00 the Festival de las Macanas will open at 11:00 in the casa Comunal de Bulzhún with 20 artisans showing their weavings, and showing current trends in fashion and design. It will end el domingo.

In Bulzhún, Bulcay and Gualaceo, there are more than 300 weavers. The festival is to promote that work with community tourism including visits to the weavers workshops.

Symphony – The OSC will feature violinist Aisha Syed Castro at its performances Fri. in Gualaceo, and in Cuenca “hoy” (today – another word to memorize) at 20:00, and el domingo at 11:00. The performances in Cuenca will be in the teatro Pumapungo. The program includes Hébridas, Obertura by Felix Mendelsohn, Concierto para Violín #1 by Dmitri Shastakóvich, La Fiesta de la Cosecha by Luis Umberto Salgado, and will finish with Ravel’s Bolero.

Teatro – “Maria Magdalena: La mujer borrada,” (Mary Magdalene: The erased woman) played by Cuencana Juana Estrella, will be presented hoy <read the item above> at 20:00 in the Capilla (Chapel) of the Museo de la Medicina.

Otras cosas –

Titular – Peatonización del centro no convence (Pedestrianization of the center does not convince) – The Plan de Movilidad that has possible pedestrian only streets in El Centro worries the tourism sector which has already born the “peatonización forzada” (Forced pedestrianization) of the Tranvía and incurred large losses. <I guess one way to keep cars from parking on the Tranvía tracks is to make those streets pedestrian only.>

Homeless – Homeless people, including minors, are living under bridges such as Todos Santos and in the pedestrian passage between calle Larga and 12 de Abril. Police cleared the area el miércoles pasado and yesterday, but the people return.  Social services tries to get them to help, but it’s difficult since often the home situations are worse.

Meeting – Pres. Moreno installed the Consejo Consultivo Productivo y Tributario (CCPT – Productive and Tax Advisory Council) yesterday to open dialogue between the public and private sectors to form actions and policies for production, investment and employment.

Business trade fair – The “1st Encuentro Empresarial Ecuador-Europa” will be in Quito on 4/7 and two days after in Guayaquil. It will bring Ecuadorian producers and exporters together with European buyers.

Tranvía – Work started Thurs. on Sangurima y Manuel Vega up to Huayna Cápac. There will be no new detours since the streets are already closed.

Electrical shut-offs – Empresa Eléctrica shut off power in various sectors of the city Fri. for 30 min. at a time. It started at Miguel Vélez and Vega Muñoz and at Sucre and Miguel Heredia.

Road problems –

Morona Santiago – MTOP of Morona Santiago is cleaning up a large slide on km 36 of the vía Méndez-Morona. A slide on sábado was cleaned up in a few hours, but a larger slide has now obstructed 100 m. of road. The work should be finished in 10 days.

Vía Gualaceo-Limón – Reconstruction of this road has been complicated by continuing slides. Vehicle traffic will be restricted until 3/7.
Ingamullo – Work is continuing on widening the road.
El Tahual – Slope stabilization work is continuing.

Phone service interruption – TVCable will shut off phone service on 1/7 from midnight to 6 AM in the Yanuncay sector to install a new fiber optic cable. Call 600 01 00 for more info. <Or have your facilitator call if all you can manage is “Why no fono?”>

Amenidades –

Los Auténticos Decadentes and Carmelos de Cianuro will perform Saturday at 20:00 in the Coliseo Jefferson Pérez. Get tickets at Almacens La Victoria. Cost: $26, 45, & 60.
