Hola, Todos –

Articles about –
Apps where you can get information about what’s going on in Cuenca include “App Cuenca Cultural”, App Red Museos Cuenca” and “App Cuyker.”  The firstchl jeanne logo lists cultural events organized by the City Department of Culture and includes map information.  It’s in Spanish and English and you can download books published by the City.  The Museum Network App has a list of museums, galleries and bookstores and you can get information about the collections.  Cuyker started in 2014 because there wasn’t site that announced all the events in the city.  This App allows people or organizations to announce their own events for free and it will be available in English in April and is planning to expand to Guayaquil and Quito.  (It sounds like I can retire from translating!)

Iván Petroff, the new director of the CCE was inaugurated this past Wed.
The OSC which is playing tonight at 20:00 in the Teatro Pumapungo.  The program will include an Ecuadorian composition, Concierto Número 3 para piano y orquesta “Ancestros.”  (If you can’t translate that or at least get an idea of what it’s about, my deepest sympathies.)

Otras cosas –

Titular – Data Center, subutilizado (Data Center, underused) A $7 million Data Center has only 6 clients in 3 years.  The center can store and transmit information with maximum security.

Teacher shortage in Zone 6 – There are 330 vacancies in Cuenca public schools.

Tranvía – the work in the 18 blocks along La Mar and Gran Colombia in El Centro is supposed to be finished by the middle of August. To meet that deadline, the work will need to go 24/7. (Whoever is going to the US, bring back good earplugs for all your friends fronting the Tranvía.)

Phone books – ETAPA has the 2016 phone books available.

Anti-mining protest –
on 11/3 is being organized by the Frente de Mujeres Defensoras de la Pachamama (Front of Women Defenders of Mother Earth.)  The Environmental License was given to the Río Blanco mine which is in the Molleturo-Mollepongo protected forest in the Cajas.  The women are fighting to protect the water and asking when the people of Cuenca will wake up since Cuenca water comes from the Cajas, too.  (I guess when it starts to run a sickly green color and smell like a refinery.)
