Exposición – “Retorno al Origen Ancestral” (Return to Ancestral Origin), paintings by Víctor Quillupangui, are an homage to nature.  The show is in the Salón del Pueblo at the CCE.

Gallery – “Yuyay,” new multi-purpose gallery will be a cultural space to show and to teach art, have a community store, and sell used books.  There will be a charge for the workshops which will include tools and materials excepting oils and brushes. Symphony – The Symphony performed Fri. in the teatro Pumapungo. The program included “Los preludios” by Franz Liszt and the “Sinfonía Número Ocho” by Dvorac.

Viernes Cultural Salesiano (Salesian Cultural Friday) – The new season started Fri. at the Universidad Politécnica Salesiana with a festival of music, dance and traditions of Esmeraldas.   The performance was in the Teatro “Carlos Crespi” .

Monologue – “Entre memorias y recuerdos” (Between memories and recollections) is a solo performance by Daniell Montalván who plays an old man on the last day of his life, a shut-in, who remembers and reflects on his life as he looks at the things in his room.  There are performances today and tomorrow at 20:00 in the sala “Alfonso Carrasco Vintimilla” at the CCE.  Cost:  $5.00.  (Could your life flash before your eyes if you took inventory of what’s in your room? – fotos, souvenirs, etc.)

Otras cosas – 

Titular – 46 policías acusados de tortura (46 police accused of torture) –  The police are accused of torturing prisoners in the jail in Turi on 31/5/2016 while doing an inspection for things not allowed in the cells (like guns, drugs and persons of the opposite sex?).  The police under investigation are prohibited from leaving the country and must report periodically.  If convicted, the sentence is up to 13 years.

Voto 2017 – The 5th on the slates for provincial assemblies were interviewed.

Casa de la Diabetes – The Municipio announced the creation of the Casa de la Diabetes which will open by marzo.  It will be located either in the Casa de Chaguarchimbana or one of the city owned houses being restored in the El Vado sector.  There will be medical, educational and psychological services available along with low priced medications.

Tranvía –  As of yesterday, the CCRC had not responded to the Mayor’s announcement of termination of the contract.  The CCRC has until 1/2 to respond.  It has sent an email saying that it hasn’t abandoned the project and that work is continuing and that the delays were caused by the lack of processing work orders on the part of the city.

Your sliver of life article today – is about sewers.  (Couldn’t have the life we do without them.)  ETAPA signed agreements for sewer projects in 9 parishes including Sayausí, Llacao, Machángara, San Sebastián, hermano Miguel, Ricuarte, Octavio Cordero Placios, Nulti, y Paccha.  According to ETAPA records, 60% of the rural sector had sewer service in 2014 and currently it is 85%.  (Nice to live in a country where the infrastructure is improving rather than rotting away from neglect.)

“Trump desata una crisis con México sobre pago del muro” (Trump unleashes a crisis with Mexico over payment for the wall) – Trump threatened to cancel a meeting with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto if Mexico wasn’t inclined to pay for the wall, and Peña twittered that he had informed the White House that he would not be coming to the meeting.

Chile – Forest fires in Chile have taken 9 lives and destroyed more than 1,000 homes.  Yesterday there were 103 fires registered, 53 still being fought, 48 under control and 2 extinguished.  The area affected is 273,533 hectars.
