Breakdance Workshop <At my age, break a hip, break an arm, etc.> – Poe One, a big name in hip hop worldwide, will be giving a 3-hour breakdance workshop Saturdaya at 10:00 in the Museo Pumapungo. At 13:00, there will be two competitions: graffiti and breakdance; a battle of the rappers and DJ demonstrations.

Art in public spaces – The Cantonal Council did not have a quorum and could not vote on a resolution that would free public spaces for the expression of arts. Artists had a meeting on the plazoleta at el Centenario.

Exhibit – The exhibit “Divergente” at the Yuyay Galería closed Friday.

Titular – Sobornos por 3.3 millones (Bribes for 3.3 million) – The Comisión Nacional Anticorrupción (CNA – all cognates, all yours) asked the Attorney General to investigate 6 high ranking officials and ex-officials including VP Glas and the ex-minister of electricity, who is now an asambleísta <assembly member – another word to memorize – I like it because it’s shorter and less typing.> The CNA is a self-defined body that is public, but not governmental. The 7 were tied to a series of bribes made by Caminosca company. The commission revealed other names associated with the Minas-San Francisco, Sopladora, and Toachi-Pilatón power plants.

TAME – CORPAC “espera” (expects/hopes/waits) to be notified about resumption of flights between Cuenca and Guayaquil. Juan Fernández, the director of CORPAC which administers the Cuenca airport, met with Paúl Granda, Minister of Transport and Public Works; the Vice Minister of Transport Management; and the Subsecretary for the Civil Aviation Transportation. Granda offered to start flights this month. <He should be able to do it – it’s a government airline and he’s a Minister. And he probably wants to show up Cabrera.>

Boat service – The prefectura of Zamora Chinchipe has given boats and a worker so that residents in the farthest parts of the province have a water taxi service on the río Numpatakaime. <It looks like a typical jungle river canoe without the canvas top.>

Negative inflation rate – The inflation rate for junio was -0.58% and the accumulated rate for 2017 is 0.32%. From junio, 2016 to junio, 2017, the rate was 0.16%. <Sounds like you won’t have to give your cleaning lady a very big pay increase next year.>

Mercado 12 de Abril – The area behind the market will be an underground garage and demolition of the existing paving is underway. Merchants, starting with the fruit vendors, are being relocated to the front under new tents. The project is scheduled to take one year. <Keep your fingers crossed that 3’s a charm and this project will stay on schedule.>

Cuidado de mascotas (Care of pets) – Two agencies in the city are responsible for monitoring responsible pet ownership. The UGA responded to 193 complaints last year. To make a report, call 4134-900 ext. 1650.

Paving – The paving work on the vía San Joaquín-Sústag has resumed. 13 km. of paving will be done. <Just as far as the water treatment plant and then back onto continuous potholes if you want to go to Soldados. You should have bought real estate there two years ago when the whole road was potholes.>

Livestock market – The new livestock market in Paute will have livestock fairs on domingos from 6-11:00. Currently the fair sees about 80 pigs, 10 cows and 2 or 3 horses each week.

Radio La Mega – The radio station at 103.3 is celebrating 21 years with a show in Parque de la Madre on domingo at 10:00. There will also be a classic car show with 50 cars and a raffle for a chance to meet the entertainers. The singers will be Don Day / Micro Jim, Rocko y Blasty, David Cañizares, Javier Neira, Tierra Canela, jaime Enruqui Aymara, Los Búfalos, and Gerardo Morán with the Franklin Band. This will be a family, alcohol free event.
