Hello to all.
There are changes in the procedures for foreigners who wish to apply for a visa or for foreigners who have a visa but need to make other procedures with that visa, such as transfer, cancellations, obtaining an Ecuadorian ID (cedula) orders, and any other procedures. These procedures were centralized in Quito city, having to do the process online first to receive the instructions to be done.
It is expected that this change will provide a better and more agile service, but we must wait to see the results since it is known unofficially that after the approval of the visa, the process must be completed in the local Immigration office of the expat´s residence.

According to current regulations, investments for Investor Visas in CD Banks, Real Estate, or Corporations must be at least equivalent to 100 times the basic salary of a worker in Ecuador. This year, the basic salary is $482, therefore, the minimum investment for any of the three options will be $48,200. If the investment does not meet this minimum, the applicant will not be eligible for a two-year temporary residence visa in this category.
Similarly, for investment substitutions, the investment amount must be adjusted to the current minimum investment amount.

More and more people are choosing to live abroad — and to do it independently.
And something else gradually increases alongside that. The number of people navigating life without a built-in support system. What’s interesting is that this isn’t always a negative story.
Research has shown (including from AARP) that many “solo agers” are actually quite satisfied with their lives, and often report strong independence, meaningful routines, and a deep sense of personal agency.
But there’s another side to it that doesn’t get talked about as much.
Not in an overwhelming way, just in a practical one.
When you’re living abroad, support doesn’t always work the way it did back home.
It’s less system-based… and more relational.
Which means:
– it takes time to build,
– it’s not always visible
– and it doesn’t always show up the way you expect
I’ve been thinking about this more lately, especially through conversations with others living here.
There’s often a moment where people realize:
“I feel good in my life… but I’m not totally sure how supported I am if something changes.”
I’m curious if this resonates for anyone here.
And if it does, you’re not the only one. There are a few different conversations happening next week around solo living and support, all free to attend.
Feel free to message me if you’d like details.

For more than a year, a team of Expats, Cuencanos, and medical professionals has been developing the Cuenca Care Foundation (CCF)—a high-quality, medically supervised, bilingual home health care and support service for the Cuenca area. Planned services include post-surgical care, companionship and assistance with activities of daily living, palliative and hospice care, emergency call button services, and educational seminars of interest to seniors.
Based on guidance from the Ministry of Health and our legal advisors, CCF expects to receive incorporation as a community-supported non-profit foundation in late May, with services launching in Q4, 2026.
Significant foundational work has already been completed, including the development of nursing procedures and protocols; identification of required equipment and supplies; partnerships with local nursing schools; selection of an accounting team and client management and nurse scheduling software; and a successful initial fundraising campaign. This early support has validated strong demand for our services, particularly within the Expat community.
CCF is now seeking applications for its Executive Director. Working closely with the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will provide visionary leadership; oversee day-to-day operations; ensure regulatory compliance; build community partnerships; and advance the Foundation’s mission and strategic goals. In collaboration with a consulting Medical Advisor, the Executive Director will recruit, manage, and support a growing team that will include a Director of Nursing, a Director of Client Relations (social worker), an office manager, and nursing supervisors, auxiliary nurses, and home care providers.
During its first year, CCF’s clients will primarily be Expats. In years two and three, services will expand to support Cuencano families caring for elderly relatives.
