The World Health Organization (WHO) draws attention to approximately 800 chemical substances suspected of acting as endocrine disruptors, with the majority remaining inadequately studied, leaving their risks largely unknown. These disruptors can upset hormonal balance by mimicking natural hormones, interfering with cellular receptors, altering hormone synthesis, transport, metabolism, or elimination, and modifying gene expression related to the endocrine system.
Health implications range widely, from reproductive disorders (infertility, cancer) to metabolic disorders (obesity, diabetes), neurological disorders (ADHD, Alzheimer’s), immune disorders (allergies, asthma), and thyroid disorders.
Endocrine disruptors, whether natural (phytoestrogens in soy) or artificial (BPA in plastics, phthalates in cosmetics), are omnipresent in daily products. Minimizing exposure involves opting for organic, seasonal foods, reading product labels diligently, avoiding certain plastics, limiting use of certain household products, and practicing proper recycling.

FAAN is looking for an awesome home for the beautiful Miss Maime Eisenhower, a Collie/Chow mixed girl who is 1.5 years old. Miss Maime has never met a dog or person she doesn’t like and would be the perfect healthy and young dog for a family with a fenced in yard. She would also be a great companion for your current canine friend.
Maime has had one owner and is trained inside and out and loves to patrol the family property. This smart girl knows some key commands including sit, come, kennel, speak, off, go potty, down, roll over, shake, stay.
She is fully vaccinated and spayed.
Her owner, a FAAN friend, has reluctantly asked us to rehome Miss Maime because she has earned a bad rep as “The Chicken Killer of Paute ” which as we know, puts her in some serious danger of poisoning in a rural neighborhood where chickens rule.
So if you like chicken, Miss Maime does (obviously), but don’t have them roaming around your yard, this attractive, companion dog needs a loving home. We spent Saturday with her and we think she is pawsome!

Valeria was recommended to me by Dra. Maite Depreeuw, who first sent her to me for an IV infusion. Since then, she has assisted me weekly with medical needs I am unable to do on my own.
Valeria is experienced, knowledgeable and a joy to have in the house. She and her husband have a lab and pharmacy, so she does blood and other labs, as well as ostomy appliance changes, wound care, injections, vital signs, etc. Special formulations aren’t a problem. Her pricing is very reasonable and she comes to the house. If the traffic or an emergency holds her up, she calls in advance. Very dependable.
I feel truly blessed to have Valeria on my medical team. She has many advanced IV certifications and first aid training and is a university nursing graduate. I highly recommend her and suggest you call to see if your needs and her skills match. Her English is excellent.
She is an RN, has an extensive medical, lab and pharmaceutical background. Valeria’s family analysis lab is Expertlab. The pharmacy is Farmacia el Arupo. She brings me medications and whatever is needed for the lab. She always lets me know when her pharmacy is having specials on medications I take.

What does Hogar de Esperanza do with your donations of clothing and household items? First and foremost, we give them away to those who are most in need of them. Great care is taken to make sure that they get exactly what they need. Any extra items are sold in our thrift shop, where all of the proceeds go back into directly supporting the foundation’s work of helping those in need.
Are you moving soon – perhaps across town or maybe even back home – and you have items that you can’t take with you? Do you wish you had someone to come carry away those items remaining after your moving sale, that you don’t know what to do with? Were you just spring-cleaning last week, and came across clothes in your closets that you no longer wanted? If you would like to do some incredible things with those items you no longer need or want, let us turn them into something valuable to help those in need.
We accept anything that you wish to donate, and put it to immediate use. You can come by the thrift shop, which is located at 8-28 Juan Montalvo y Mariscal Sucre, to drop off items Monday through Friday from 9 AM – 5:30 PM. The registration period to sign up for our next group courses is now open. Classes will start on March 4 and March 5.
Open spots are available for beginners (3 new classes), intermediates (2 new classes) and advanced students (2 new classes). An initial assessment will be provided in order to know your level and place you in the correct group.
Regular group classes have a maximum of five people per class and they last for 6 weeks (24 hours of class). They take place two days per week, two hours each day. The course fee is $150.
A workbook with all learning materials will be provided. The courses also include free access to the cultural workshops: dance lessons, Ecuadorian cooking, fruit tasting, guided trips into the city, creative writing sessions and Latin movie-forum events.
Every course has its own learning goals with structured activities. The communicative method we use focuses on speaking and listening skills. Regarding our team of teachers, we aim at making the experience of learning Spanish as enjoyable and gratifying as possible. The two foundations of our method are:
1) A communicative approach with meaningful and engaging teaching materials.
2) Fully qualified and experienced teachers that understand the process of learning a language and take into account its rational and emotional components.

Black and white portraits of the dogs of FAAN are included in art purchases so in a way, you become the Dog/Godparent to that pup while they are awaiting their forever home. Of course if you fall in love at first sight with their photo, we can arrange a first date.

In Ecuador, it is essential to distinguish between a “RECEIPT” – “COMPROBANTE” and an “ELECTRONIC INVOICE” – “FACTURA ELECTRONICA”, not just for insurance purposes.
The RECEIPT OR COMPROBANTE is issued as a backup for a commercial transaction but does not meet all the formal requirements of a complete invoice. It contains basic information about the transaction and is physically delivered to the customer.
Instead, the ELECTRONIC INVOICE – FACTURA ELECTRONICA is a detailed commercial document sent to the customer’s email, complying with all legal and tax requirements established by the authorities in Ecuador. It must include specific and detailed information about the transaction, such as supplier and customer data. It is important to provide your EMAIL ADDRESS; otherwise, the FACTURA ELECTRONICA will be sent to the IRS.
It is crucial for the invoice to contain correct customer information, including full name, supplier, and customer identification numbers, invoice issuance date, detailed description of goods or services, and unit and total prices. The term “FINAL CONSUMER” should be avoided as it does not provide necessary information such as names, passport, or ID numbers of the purchaser.
In summary, The FACTURA ELECTRONICA is the official and complete document, while the COMPROBANTE may serve as a simplified record of the transaction. It is crucial for customers to understand this difference to avoid confusion and comply adequately with tax and commercial obligations in Ecuador.
