Don’t miss the new FAAN (Fundación Familia Amor Animal) art exhibit and sale at idiomART to benefit the building of the first modern animal shelter in Ecuador!
Now you have no excuse not to bring a FAAN Dog into your home in this unique exhibition combining dogs, art and love.

About the Exhibit: Artist Leah Bolger has donated her entire collection of brilliant, mixed magazine collage and quilt art to FAAN to help the foundation to raise building construction funds with groundbreaking scheduled for next month.

In purchasing one of these special art pieces, named after an individual shelter dog, you are honoring that dog who you can even meet at the shelter.
Black and white portraits of the dogs of FAAN are included in art purchases so in a way, you become the Dog/Godparent to that pup while they are awaiting their forever home. Of course if you fall in love at first sight with their photo, we can arrange a first date.

While you are at the idiomART exhibit be sure to check out the vintage, limited edition framed dog prints from the Year of the Dog in San Francisco’s Chinatown located on the second floor of the gallery and genuine sheepskin rugs from Cotacachi. Thanks to your support, we’re making Cuenca known as “The City that Cares” about animal welfare.

In Ecuador, it is essential to distinguish between a “RECEIPT” – “COMPROBANTE” and an “ELECTRONIC INVOICE” – “FACTURA ELECTRONICA”, not just for insurance purposes.

The RECEIPT OR COMPROBANTE is issued as a backup for a commercial transaction but does not meet all the formal requirements of a complete invoice. It contains basic information about the transaction and is physically delivered to the customer.

Instead, the ELECTRONIC INVOICE – FACTURA ELECTRONICA is a detailed commercial document sent to the customer’s email, complying with all legal and tax requirements established by the authorities in Ecuador. It must include specific and detailed information about the transaction, such as supplier and customer data. It is important to provide your EMAIL ADDRESS; otherwise, the FACTURA ELECTRONICA will be sent to the IRS.

It is crucial for the invoice to contain correct customer information, including full name, supplier, and customer identification numbers, invoice issuance date, detailed description of goods or services, and unit and total prices. The term “FINAL CONSUMER” should be avoided as it does not provide necessary information such as names, passport, or ID numbers of the purchaser.

In summary, The FACTURA ELECTRONICA is the official and complete document, while the COMPROBANTE may serve as a simplified record of the transaction. It is crucial for customers to understand this difference to avoid confusion and comply adequately with tax and commercial obligations in Ecuador.

If you missed my picture, boosted post, I highly recommend Carmita Avila and Rescate Animal Cuenca for pet adoptions and animal rescue donations.

Carmita and her group, Rescate Animal Cuenca, have placed over 1700 pets in forever homes since 2013. I got to know Carmita and the group’s good work when I rescued a very difficult to place abused dog I couldn’t keep. Carmita kept with her for two years, sending her to a trainer and eventually placing her in her loving Forever Home.

I supported the dog with Carmita while she worked with her. I still donate monthly. Rescate Animal is a grassroots organization of local animal lovers. They’re not as well known or well publicized as other groups, but are just as deserving.

They are holding an auction to raise funds for vetting, flea meds, wormers, food, coconut oil, etc. They also accept donations, both of needed goods and cash. If you can sell tickets, or if you want to buy them or just donate, you can contact Carmita or donate via PayPal (contact Carmita for PayPal info, I can’t include it here).

Won’t you please consider adding Rescate Animal Cuenca to your Good Works list? Carmita, her group of animal loving caregivers, and many dogs and cats thank you. So do I.

I had some new shirts for my husband, bought on sale from US. When we got them, they were a size too big! He’d shrunk!

We called Sr. Mocha after reading many recommendations for him. He comes to your house, works out of his home. He was on time, is a very delightful, well mannered and honest individual. Always on time, or with a text message if traffic’s heavy and he’ll be late.

The shirts, which Sr. Mocha completely remade, fit beautifully. He also altered some pants for me and they fit better than when they were new (and I was fat!). Sr. Mocha also dyed a shirt suffering from too much color bleach.

Sr. Mocha’s pricing is very reasonable, especially considering his expert fittings. A bit more than Rapido, but you don’t have to wait in line or leave your home. The shirts, including purchase, shipping and Sr. Mocha’s tailoring, were less than they would have cost in a brick and mortar store in US.

We highly recommend Sr. Mocha for your tailoring needs. He will also help you choose fabrics and will custom make what you need.

For examples, he’s on Facebook, leltomm “tailor sastre.”

The Lunar New Year on Feb 9th symbolizes a profound opportunity for internal change. Transitioning into the Year of the Wood Dragon, we shed 2023 experiences, creating space for 2024’s desired seeds to bloom. This Dragon year promises excitement, creativity, and transformation, fostering good fortune, personal power expression, and new opportunities. The wood element signifies springtime energy—quick growth, sudden breakthroughs, and resilient changes. The blend of Dragon and Wood offers a recipe for personal reinvention, akin to a Dragon’s journey from a tiny silkworm to filling the sky.

If you resonate with this energy and would like to harmonize with the expansive promise this cycle offers, Shaman Taita Ivan Navarro can reset your home’s energies or provide a personal shamanic cleansing, allowing a fresh start aligned with your desired direction. Shamanic “limpias” use fire, smoke, sacred plants, and natural elements to clear outdated energies and restore balance.

For more information send us an email.

Services:

Personal Energy Harmonization: $70 (90-minute session, home visit + translation included if needed)
Home Energy Cleanse: $55
Taita Ivan Navarro, an elder medicine man from Chile with 40+ years of experience, specializes in shamanic healing arts. Over the past 15 years, he has hosted temazcal ceremonies, power plant medicine retreats, and private healings & home cleansings in Ecuador.

Sabrina is intelligent, confident, and has an attitude that she is ready to take on the world. She is highly creative, has a great personality, is fun to work with, and she speaks English.

Sabrina will graduate as a lawyer from the University of Cuenca in three weeks. I mentioned that she is very intelligent. She will be graduating as the class Valedictorian, or the top student, so she has superb legal knowledge.

She has helped me with many legal aspects like drafting and reviewing contracts and giving me advice on Ecuadorian law when I need it. Her legal advice is actually better, and more useful, than many lawyers, and her cost is much more reasonable.

She’s not only smart but she is also very diligent and very efficient, and she has a great problem solving ability.

I know you will enjoy working with Sabrina for your legal and facilitator needs.

High-dose Vitamin C is crucial to a healthy body and contributes to your immune defence by supporting and directly stimulating various cellular functions of both the innate and adaptive immune systems.

Vitamin C is an essential antioxidant and is responsible for many functions in the body. While not all of our oral supplements are fully absorbed, IV delivery of Vitamin C ensures that 100% of the vitamin is bioavailable. In addition, when given high doses, Vitamin C converts from an antioxidant to an oxidative therapy.

Failing to get enough vitamin C can result in deficiencies that may result in poor wound healing, easy bruising, bleeding of the gums, and anemia. In addition, since vitamin C aids in iron absorption, a severe deficiency may cause scurvy, a disease categorized by extreme weakness, bruising, bleeding, and lethargy.

I may suggest a high-dose vitamin C IV drip if:

You spend a lot of time in the city, travel a lot, and are frequently exposed to pollution
You suddenly feel run down
You have gastrointestinal issues
You have a chronic infection
You have a vitamin deficiency
You have problems with malabsorption
You have recently undergone chemotherapy

Benefits:
Helps clear infections
Strengthens the immune system
Helps prevent degenerative diseases
Protects the body from free radical damage
Decreases oxidative stress in cells

Cost of IV $50 + a $5.00 transportation fee

Anyone know about the likelihood of me using my Ecuadorian grandmother’s citizenship as a basis for requesting Ecuadorian (dual) citizenship as an American whose mother was forced to renounce Ecuadorian citizenship when she naturalized as a US citizen? (My dad was American). Has anyone done this? How hard/easy was it? Thanks in advance!

As Carnival season arrives, so does the potential for health risks. With my experience in healthcare, I’ve noticed an uptick in emergencies during this festive period, including heatstroke, dehydration, sprains, and food and alcohol intoxications.

Precautionary Measures:

Hydration and Sun Protection: Prolonged exposure to the sun necessitates ample hydration and sun protection to ward off heatstroke.
Avoiding Sprains and Injuries: Crowded and irregular terrains call for cautious navigation and comfortable footwear.
Food and Alcohol Safety: High temperatures and unsanitary conditions increase the risk of food poisoning, while excessive alcohol consumption may lead to intoxication. Choose your indulgences wisely to prevent these issues.

How I Can Assist:
Based in Cuenca, Ecuador, I offer comprehensive healthcare services tailored to your needs, including holistic family care, chronic disease management, minor surgical interventions, child and adolescent health assessments, and precise intravenous treatments.

House Calls: I provide house calls post-Carnival for those preferring the privacy of their home, available Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 10 PM, and weekends from 8 AM to 5 PM.

Contact Me: For those in Cuenca seeking medical advice or care, reach out. Fluent in English, I’m here to support both the local and international community.

Enjoy Carnival responsibly, knowing health support is readily available for a safe and joyful experience.

Dear Expats in Cuenca and all Ecuador,
My name is Alina and I am currently volunteering for the non profit organisation FUPEC (Familias Unidas Por las Enfermedades Catastróficas). The foundation works for people with catastrophic diseases, especially cancer.

At the moment we have a program for this February that’s called ,’Ferrero dorado’ that stands for golden February and means that this month is dedicated to make the people aware of all types of cancer and FUPEC organized a lot of programs for the patients. One of these is for children with leukemia that will receive little boxes with fun toys and other materials.
As you can imagine, that type of work is not always very easy but when you see how thankful the children and patients are, it makes everything worth it.

The heart of our foundation are the people that volunteer and we can always need more help. On the way you can practice your Spanish with the patients. So if you would like to help us realize our programs for the people that need it the most, then we welcome you into the family that always accompanies you.

Sincerely Alina (volunteer in FUPEC)
