Gary Manners has been appointed British Honorary Consul in Cuenca, assuming his duties Thursday in a ceremony with British Ambassador to Ecuador Katherine Ward.

Gary Manners receives his consul appointment from Great Britain’s ambassador to Ecuador Katherine Ward.

With a background in marketing, communication, social work and education, Manners’ appointment covers Azuay, Cañar and Loja Provinces. “My interest is to serve the needs of British families living in the area as well British tourists and to build bonds between Ecuadorian citizens and the UK,” he says. “Among my first duties is to visit provincial governors and prefects and mayors in the region. My goal is to build a network of connections to maintain good relationships.”

Specifically, Manners plans to work to increase the number of British tourists visiting southern Ecuador. “I see great potential for growth in the tourism area and will work with local authorities and British tourism agencies to help realize this potential.”

Manners is one of three British consuls in Ecuador, the others serving Guayaquil and the Galapagos.
